Yrjö Kukkapuro, Experiment Chair, 1982
In 1982, Yrjö Kukkapuro (1933-2025), now a well-known Finnish designer, experienced a “post-modern explosion”. His Experiment Chair, with its sculptural and colorful armrests, was one such example. He embodied Finland's optimism in the early 1980s and the chair debuted at the Salone del Mobile in 1982, before going on sale in 1984. Production stopped in 1995. The 91-year-old Kukkapuro considers the Experiment Chair to be the biggest success of his career.
Chrome tubular frame, black leather seat and green curved birch plywood armrests. The Experiment Series chairs by manufacturer Avarte are made in a limited edition and are rare. The chair is in a very good condition with slight wear on the armrests (see photos).
