Goffredo Reggiani floor lamp with opal glass shade, 60/70s
Standing lamp by Goffredo Reggiani for Reggiani. A long, chromed rod on top of a round chromed metal base (with a cast iron counterweight) bears an opal glass lampshade in the shape of a hemisphere or mushroom.
Goffredo Reggiani was born in 1929 and, in 1957, together with his wife Maria Spinelli Reggiani, founded the company “Reggiani Illuminazione” in Monza, Italy, not far from Milan and internationally known for the F1 circuit “Autodromo Nazionale”. Initially, 'Reggiani' specialized in the production of very beautiful decorative lamps. Goffredo had a strong passion for art, paintings and sculptures, which was also evident in the sophisticated decorative characters of his lamps, they were like sculptures of lamps. Goffredo Reggiani designed most of the lamps himself and often used plywood and purified opal glass in his designs, giving his lamps a Scandinavian look. Later in the sixties and seventies, his interest in using materials switched to brass and chromed metal, as seen in this lamp.
