Louis Kalff 'Senior' desk lamp for Philips, 60s
Iconic Louis Kalff classic, this Philips 'Senior' desk lamp from the 1960s. A round, blue-turquoise-painted, curved base with cast iron counterweight on the inside. Built-in switch. Conical, dark blue/purple painted copper rod with brass ends. Blue turquoise painted aluminum lampshade in the shape of a mushroom with elongated slots and a hole in the middle. White painted on the inside.
The lamp is in reasonable vintage condition with scratches and wear on the foot and slight wear on the shade. Minor paint damage at the top of the brass rod (see photos for details).
Philips lighting from the 1950s was developed within the design department founded and led by Louis Kalff. The resemblance between his later architectural work (Evoluon) and some Philips dish-shaped lamps, such as Decora, Senior and Junior, simply shows that the same visual language was used within Philips.
